Scholarships available to international students
The scholarships listed below are for international students1 to undertake studies at the University of Melbourne. These scholarships are offered as part of the Melbourne Scholarships Program.
- International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS)
- Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarships (MIFRS)
- Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS)
- Human Rights Scholarships (HRS)
- Travelling scholarships
While not part of the Melbourne Scholarships Program, Studentships are sometimes offered to international students. We also encourage all applicants to fully research other funding opportunities.
Scholarships offered collaboratively with the University of Melbourne and administered by Melbourne Scholarships include:
- China Scholarship Council (CSC)
- Victoria India Doctoral Scholarships (VIDS)
- Victoria International Research Scholarships (VIRS)
China Scholarship Council
To promote international collaboration the University of Melbourne, in conjunction with The China Scholarship Council (CSC), is offering PhD candidature places to excellent candidates from Chinese universities. The CSC will provide:- a living allowance ($20,400 pa. 2013 rate) and OSHC as prescribed by the Chinese Government;
- a return airfare between China and Melbourne by the most economical route; and
- visa application fees.
- a full tuition fee scholarship for up to 4 years; and
- the possibility of competing for further financial support such as funds to support relocation and an increase in the stipend to a maximum of AU$25,000 per annum. Extra funds will be available for up to 20 CSC recipients.
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must first submit a University of Melbourne application form for PhD study supported through the China Scholarship Council. The first application round for 2013 has now closed. The University of Melbourne will notify applicants of the outcome of their application by Friday 15th February 2013. Applicants will then need to contact their home institution or Chinese Consular Office* and apply to the CSC by Wednesday 20th March 2013.
*This applies to Chinese citizens already in Australia who should seek advice from their Chinese Consular Office before approaching CSC.

墨尔本大学将会提供:
- 上限为四年的全额课程学费;以及
- 获得更多经济资助的机会,如申请搬迁经济补助及申请提升生活津贴(最高总津贴值为每年25,000澳元)。此津贴最多可授予20名受国家留学基金委员会资助的申请人。
申请步骤如下:申请者需先向墨尔本大学递交博士课程申请,该课程学习期间将由国家留学基金委员提供资助。2013年第一轮申请现已截止。
申请人将于2013年2月15日(周五)前获墨尔本大学通知其课程申请结果。获得录取通知的申请人需与所属院校或中国领事馆 *联系,并于2013年3月20日(周三)之前向国家留学基金委员会递交奖学金申请。

Victoria India Doctoral Scholarships
Ten prestigious doctoral scholarships will be available to international scholars from India to pursue research based at a university in Victoria commencing in 2013. The Scholarships are worth AUD$90,000 and provide a full waiver of tuition fees. 2013 Applications have closed.
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must apply for the University of Melbourne PhD program via the combined candidature and scholarship application form available at www.futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/admissions/applications/research.
A separate application is not required. All eligible applications will be automatically considered. Candidature applications must be submitted to University of Melbourne by 31 August 2012.
The University of Melbourne will contact those to be nominated during November 2012. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified.
