All eligible students are those who applied via VTAC for a Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) place for mentioned categories (that is, an Indigenous Australian, financial disadvantage and/or from a regional area) at the University of Melbourne in 2011.

Commonwealth Scholarships

There are three Commonwealth Scholarships for Indigenous students administered by the University of Melbourne.

For all three scholarships the following apply:

The number of scholarships available is dependent on funding from the Government.

Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships

Benefits

$2,290 per annum for the duration of the degree, up to a maximum of four years.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

  • an Indigenous Australian, and
  • a commencing or continuing undergraduate student, and
  • enrolled or intending to enrol full-time in a Commonwealth-supported place undergraduate degree, and
  • able to demonstrate financial disadvantage.

Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships

Benefit

$4580 per annum for the duration of the degree, up to a maximum of four years.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

Within the four years prior to commencing their course at university, students must have either:
i)    lived in a regional and remote area of Australia
for a total of at least three years, or

ii)   completed the final two years of schooling in a high school or college in a regional and remote area, or

iii)  moved away from a regional and remote area to complete the final two years of schooling at a high school or to undertake vocational training, eg TAFE in a major city, and

b)   it must be necessary for students to move from the regional and remote area in order to undertake their university course, or, in the case of students who moved from a regional and remote area to complete their secondary schooling it must be necessary for the student to remain in a major city in order to undertake their university course, and

c)   the student will incur additional accommodation costs, and

d)   the student is enrolled as an on-campus student.

Commonwealth Indigenous Access Payment

Benefit

A one-off payment of $4,321 paid in two instalments.

Application process

All eligible students who applied via VTAC for a Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) place for the above categories (that is, an Indigenous Australian, financial disadvantage and/or from a regional area) at the University of Melbourne in 2011 will be considered for the above scholarships.

Outcome

Successful applicants will be emailed an offer letter in January. Unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted.

Deferring your scholarship

  • You will only be permitted to defer your scholarship if you are permitted to defer your course place.
  • Students who are permitted to defer commencement of their course will automatically be permitted to defer commencement of their scholarship for one year but must accept the scholarship first.
