Wedding photography

The picturesque grounds of the University of Melbourne are an ideal location to have your wedding photographs taken. Anyone is able to arrange for a permit.

Permits

There is a fee for wedding photography permits on the University of Melbourne grounds. A fee of $473 (including GST) for external clients and $264 (including GST) for current and former staff and students of the University is applicable (subject to evidence of their employment or studies at the University).

Please note that setting up tables and serving refreshments during wedding photography sessions is not permitted.

Permits will only be issued for 1.5-hour photography sessions on Saturdays and Sundays. Only 1 permit will be issued per 1.5-hour session.

The University has been advised by Yarra Trams that upgrade works will be taking place on Swanston Street and Elgin Street in February 2024. These works will cause significant transport disruptions and delays along Swanston Street, restricted vehicle access to campus and some changes to pedestrian access.

Due to the large number of people on campus, permits will NOT be issued on Weekdays or on Saturdays and Sundays when key University events (such as Graduations and Open Days) are taking place.

Dates permits will not be issued in 2024 (Graduations, Open Day - subject to change):

Access points and parking

The closest parking to the University is on Royal Parade in the public car park under the Kenneth Myer building (Brain Centre, see map below). Note: there is no longer access through Gate 10, due to the Melbourne Metro Rail works.

Wedding chapels and churches

While there is no chapel on campus, some of the adjacent residential colleges have chapels that are available for wedding ceremonies.
