Early Childhood Care and Education is now governed by joint commonwealth and state law and regulations. The National Quality Framework encompasses ‘Belonging, Being and Becoming – the National Early Years Learning Framework’, licensing, operational regulations (including child staff ratios) and the National Quality Rating system. All these functions are overseen by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
Centrelink operates the Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate which help families with the cost of care.
Our centres also receive state government funding to provide a Kindergarten program for eligible children in the year before they start school. The Kindergarten program is also guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (0-8), which has the same Learning Outcomes as the national framework (Belonging, Being and Becoming).
Children’s Services also has a range of policies covering both ethical and operational aspects of the work of the unit. Policies are developed in consultation with staff and parents, and children where relevant, and are regularly reviewed. Key policies are posted here, and the full suite of policies is always on display in the foyers of both centres.
