
Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides enrolled students and staff a range of pathways to free, confidential psychological support, delivered by mental health practitioners experienced in the University environment. These include short-term individual counselling, group programs, workshops, training, online resources, and consultancy.

CAPS offers free workshops and group programs for personal development, mental health and wellbeing issues each semester.

Our group programs provide a supportive and managed environment for students to connect with each other, explore the challenges they face and to discuss strategies and practices.

Individual counselling
Free, confidential, short-term counselling for currently enrolled University students located in Australia. In person and online appointments are available.

Self-help resources
Resources and exercises for a range of issues, including mental health, study, relationships, addictive behaviours, trauma, and life transitions.

Mental health training
Learn to recognise and assist someone developing a mental health problem or in crisis, including Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training.

Services for staff
University of Melbourne staff can access short-term individual counselling via the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

Mental health crisis and emergency support
Access urgent mental health support (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), including the University's dedicated Mental Health Crisis Support Service, other crisis helplines and emergency services.
